Isabel Lencastre, born in Angola, moved to Praia da Barra/Aveiro in 1975. In 1983 she went to Lisbon to attend college. She worked for about 25 years in Lisbon. It was there that she met her husband, Acácio Leitão. He, born in Lisbon but with origins in Couto dos Correias and Malpica do Tejo, always dreamed of living close to nature and his roots. They had a house and family land, long abandoned, and decided to embrace a new life project - to transform the house at Couto dos Correias into Rural Tourism. Their adult children stayed in Lisbon.
For that they applied to PRODER and managed to get the help to do the works. In June 2015 they inaugurated their accommodation.

The promoter Acácio Leitão with the minimum schooling, son of farmers who immigrated to Lisbon, has passed through several jobs but every year he went with his parents to the land to pick olives and honey. He has a vast experience in the practice of agriculture, namely olive growing, beekeeping and horticulture, in horse riding (thinning and training horses) and in organizing horse rides. He has attended several courses in the area of beekeeping. At the moment he is responsible for the horse-drawn carriage rides and for the maintenance of the vegetable garden.
The taste for the rural environment and the growing practice in agricultural exploration associated with the inheritance of the property where Casa dos Xarês was developed, awakened the spirit of entrepreneurship in the promoters, who see this investment as an opportunity to improve their family income, without however neglecting the preservation and enhancement of the rich heritage (tangible and intangible) cultural and rural region. The promoters have also developed their knowledge, in a self-taught way, at the level of agricultural exploration, as a result of the use of existing land, however, they intend to continue to attend specific courses and related to the tourism activity (operation, market, management, etc.), with the honey production (beekeeping), with gastronomy (especially with the use of local products and on typical regional recipes) with certain agricultural productions, namely fruit trees and aromatic herbs. They also demonstrate a high knowledge of the territory, tourism resources, cultural traditions and history, elements that will be used in the construction of the visitors' experience through an interactive sharing, in which the promoters will share their knowledge of the territory. Another important factor associated with the promoters is their knowledge of the public and private agents in the region, which enables the creation of partnerships and integrated tourism packages that combine different types of supply (accommodation, catering, entertainment, transport, culture, etc.). They have participated in some craft fairs in the region (selling jams, aromatic olive oil and hot sauce). Small handicrafts: various leather works (made to order), traditional handicrafts (the "fisgas") and other small schist works (key rings, paintings).
At this moment they already feel like "beirões" and they know that the contact with nature, the fresh air, the simple life are the best goods they can have.
